AYR ORIENTEERING CLUB

AYROC will produce an event standard (the first) orienteering map, based on the Arran Community Land Initiative (ACLI), for community, schools and visitor use. The aim is to have a small permanent course in place on the ACLI.  AYROC will oversee the production of the map and setting up the courses. They also have club members in place on the island to deliver training.  AYROC would like to assist with the development of orienteering on Arran, using this as a pilot project and thereafter expand the map portfolio across various identified sites on the island. 

 

The Arran Trust recognises the benefits of encouraging people out into the countryside, and orienteering is a great skill to pass on.  Orienteering is about map reading, rather than always using a phone - very important on Arran where signals can vary! The map will be openly accessed at no cost, and as such the Trustees felt this was a very worthwhile project to support.
