ACTIVITY
Education is at the heart of the work of the Geopark. Following recommendations from UNESCO, they were advised to develop more formal education programmes in collaboration with existing Geopark Partners, such as COAST, Arran Heritage Museum and the National Trust for Scotland, who each have well established educational programmes.
The projected education resources are aimed at schools and/or families and would provide two packages tailored for P1-P3 and P4-P7.
This project would create prototype education packages and related digital/downloadable resources for primary school aged children. They would be freely available on the Geopark website to download and would include background information for teachers/parents, and activities - a mix of directions for activities that could be done outdoors, and indoor/classroom-based resources.
OUTCOME
✓ The Arran Trust was pleased to offer support, and through consultation with schools, Geopark partners and other Geoparks, the Geopark was able to achieve the aims mentioned previously. The new education packages will work to increase young people's understanding and appreciation of the natural environment, they are more likely to make positive changes and choices that are beneficial to the environment.
