Preachers Cave Walk Blackwaterfoot
ACTIVITY
To develop access to and from Preachers’ Cave, and to keep access on one pathway, thereby protecting the wider environment, eg seabirds nesting,bog plants, etc.
A group of local people have have been trained by the Arran Coastal Way's Footpath Team, and have developed into a committed group, eager to see the paths in their local area improved. The group have earmarked the section in question as an area of great need.
The group intend to take this project forward by themselves with support for the Arran Coastal Ways’ Footpath Team.
OUTCOME
This project, with the help from the Arran Trust seeks to protect the environment by improving the path structure. Where paths are waterlogged, walkers tend to stray from the path and end up creating a wide and trampled area. By improving drainage and upgrading the surface of this path, we intend to keep damage around the path to a minimum, protecting the plant and animal life that live alongside the footpath.
Residents and tourists will benefit from the improved path, which will enable them to enjoy the area more and local businesses will benefit from the increase in visitors coming to Arran to walk the Arran Coastal Way, particulalry as it is now classed as one of Scotland’s Great Trails.
