ACTIVITY
Arran Access Trust planned to construct 205 metres of dug path to complete the upgrade of the footpath from the junction with the waterworks access to the start of the hand built footpath onto the hill. This would prevent further deterioration of the path. Currently, damage is being caused to the surrounding vegetation as walkers seek to avoid the worst ground. The project will resolve this problem and thereby reduce environmental damage
OUTCOME
Works supported by Arran Trust involved machine building on two sections of path and installation of cross drains– 175m from the junction to the existing built path and a further 30m on the approach to the hand built path. As a result walkers on the Arran Coastal Way and heading for / decending from Goat Fell will no longer have to negotiate these two sections of boggy ground.
